SpartanCTF 2024

Get hacking, y'all!

What is SpartanCTF?

SpartanCTF is a Jeopardy-style "capture the flag" contest. The goal is to teach introductory cybersecurity principles in a fun, gamified manner. Players will tackle challenges from a wide variety of topics, earning points for their teams by submitting the "flag" hidden away in each puzzle. The more difficult the challenge is, the more points a team will receive for solving it. The winning team will be the team with the most points by the end of the contest.

Who can play?

Anyone can participate in SpartanCTF; however, only St. Stephen's students will be eligible to receive prizes. Players can choose to work alone or in teams of up to three players. No prior experience with CTFs/information security necessary. Please note: registration is closed for non-St. Stephen's students at this point.

When is it?

SpartanCTF will open April 17, 2024 at 11:00am (CST) and will close at midnight on April 21.

Are there prizes?

Yes. Prizes will be given out to the top three teams should they meet the eligibility criteria for prizes listed above. One prize allotment per team (teammates can divide them up amongst themselves). Prizes will be announced at the kickoff event @ Becker Library during club time.

What about rules?

All players must abide by the Zero Day Club's Code of Conduct. Furthermore, players cannot engage in the sharing of challenge solutions or flags with members of other teams, nor can they post such information online until the contest has concluded. Additionally, players must not attack SpartanCTF's infrastructure -- the vulnerabilities lie in the challenges themselves, not in the services we use to host them. Moreover, players/teams cannot interfere with other players/teams. Participants that violate any of these rules will be removed from the contest and disqualified from receiving any prizes. Full list of rules available here.
